  • What is Alleviate?

Alleviate is the ImpactOps platform for nonprofits: programs, funding, proposals, compliance, finance, volunteers, reporting and an AI assistant in one system. It is made by Alleviate Technologies, Inc., a Delaware corporation founded in Washington, DC, and it is free to start.

  • How much does Alleviate cost?

In the United States, Alleviate is free on Starter, $149 a month (or $1,430.40 a year) on Growth, and $299 a month (or $2,870.40 a year) on Pro; Enterprise is priced per network. Annual billing is 20 percent off, and organizations outside the United States see a lower price set by their country.

  • Does Alleviate have a free plan?

Yes. Starter is free, needs no card and does not expire: one program, five funding alerts a month, three document slots, one seat, the basic readiness assessment, a website in draft and a public organization profile.

  • What software does a newly formed 501(c)(3) need in its first year?

A new 501(c)(3) needs five things in its first year: a calendar with the first Form 990 due date and the state registration, a record of its first program and participants, a donor record that produces acknowledgment letters, a simple website, and one place for its governing documents. Alleviate covers all five in one free Starter account, with a founding price on Growth for organizations recognized in the last 24 months.

  • When is a new nonprofit's first Form 990 due?

The first Form 990 series return is due on the 15th day of the fifth month after the organization's first fiscal year ends, which is May 15 for a calendar year organization. Which form (990-N, 990-EZ or 990) depends on gross receipts and assets for that year.

  • What is ImpactOps?

ImpactOps is the operating layer of a mission organization: the programs it runs, the outcomes it records, the money and compliance behind them, and the reporting that connects them, managed in one system. The term is Alleviate's name for the category, in the way a donor CRM names fundraising software.

  • Alleviate vs a donor CRM (Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, Little Green Light, Neon CRM): which do I need?

A donor CRM such as Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, Little Green Light or Neon CRM is the record of donors and gifts. Alleviate is the record of the organization's programs, outcomes, funding, compliance and reporting, with giving and receipts included. If fundraising from many individual donors is the main job, start with a donor CRM; if programs, grants, filings and reporting are the main job, start with Alleviate; many organizations run both.

  • Alleviate vs Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud: what is the difference?

Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud is a CRM platform that a nonprofit configures, often with a consulting partner, and it gives eligible nonprofits ten Core licenses at no cost with paid licenses from $70 per user a month billed annually. Alleviate is a ready made platform with programs, funding, compliance, finance, volunteers and reporting already built, priced per organization rather than per user. Large organizations with an administrator choose Salesforce for its flexibility; small and mid size organizations choose Alleviate because it works on the first day without configuration.

  • What is the best program management software for a small nonprofit?

For a small nonprofit, program management software should hold each program's participants, activities, budget and outcomes in one record and produce the funder report from it. Alleviate's program module does that on a free plan, and iTechGuides ranked Alleviate fourth of 29 nonprofit program management tools in its guide updated September 28, 2026, with a score of 8.0 out of 10.

  • Does Alleviate write grant proposals with AI?

Yes. Alleviate's proposal writer drafts each section from the organization's own profile, programs and document vault, flags what is missing before it drafts, and produces one section at a time for a person to review and approve. Growth includes five AI proposals a month; Pro has no limit.

  • What does Kay, Alleviate's AI assistant, do?

Kay is the AI assistant built into Alleviate. It drafts proposals, reports and explanations from the organization's own record, answers questions about the platform and about running the organization, reviews Transformation Program work against a rubric for a coach to edit, always identifies itself as an AI, and hands off to a person when asked.

  • Does Alleviate use my organization's data to train AI?

No. Organization data on Alleviate is not used to train AI models, by Alleviate or by its model providers. Kay and the proposal writer draft from the organization's own profile and documents to answer that organization's own users, and nothing leaves the system without a person approving it.

  • How does the Alleviate readiness assessment work?

The readiness assessment at readiness.alleviate.org is a free self assessment across five pillars (mission and strategic clarity; stakeholders and positioning; programs and program design; evidence, data and storytelling; systems, governance and readiness) that produces a personal report with what to strengthen first. 440 organizations in 33 countries had taken it as of October 27, 2026. It is a mirror, not a rating or an eligibility score.

  • Does Alleviate work for NGOs outside the United States?

Yes. Alleviate prices by country (middle income countries pay about 57 percent of the US price and lower income countries about 30 percent), carries compliance frameworks for 48 countries, offers the interface in English and French, and has readiness assessment participants from 33 countries. The platform is hosted in the United States.

  • What is the Alleviate Index?

The Alleviate Index is a public profile for every US public charity, generated from IRS data and published at index.alleviate.org. An organization can claim its profile with a verification code, add its own words, and keep its filing calendar there for free; nothing beyond the public record is shown until the organization itself adds it.
