Alleviate vs Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud: what is the difference?

Updated by Alleviate. Facts carry the date they were true.

Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud is a CRM platform that a nonprofit configures, often with a consulting partner, and it gives eligible nonprofits ten Core licenses at no cost with paid licenses from $70 per user a month billed annually. Alleviate is a ready made platform with programs, funding, compliance, finance, volunteers and reporting already built, priced per organization rather than per user. Large organizations with an administrator choose Salesforce for its flexibility; small and mid size organizations choose Alleviate because it works on the first day without configuration.

What Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud is

Nonprofit Cloud is Salesforce's CRM configured for fundraising, program management, grantmaking and case management. The Power of Us program gives an eligible nonprofit ten Nonprofit Cloud Core licenses at no cost; further licenses are $70 per user a month for Sales and Service Core and $125 for Advanced, billed annually, per Salesforce's nonprofit pricing page checked on October 31, 2026. The platform is as capable as the organization's administrator or implementation partner makes it, which is its strength and its cost.

What Alleviate is

Alleviate is built for the organization, not for the administrator. The ten modules are already modeled: a program with participants and outcomes, a funding alert with a proposal, a filing with a due date, a fund with a budget. There is nothing to configure before the first program is recorded. Pricing is per organization: free on Starter, $149 a month on Growth with five seats, $299 a month on Pro with unlimited seats (United States, October 29, 2026).

How to choose

Choose Salesforce when the organization has, or will pay for, someone to own the system: a database administrator, a consulting partner, a budget for apps from the AppExchange. Its depth in fundraising and its ecosystem are unmatched, and the ten free licenses make the entry price low for the licenses themselves.

Choose Alleviate when the organization has no administrator, when the executive director is the operations team, or when programs and compliance matter more than donor segmentation. The total cost is the subscription; the setup is the first program.

Some organizations keep Salesforce as the donor record and use Alleviate for programs, compliance and reporting.

The figures

  • Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud: 10 Core licenses at no cost for eligible nonprofits (Power of Us); $70 per user a month for Sales and Service Core and $125 for Advanced, billed annually (salesforce.com/nonprofit/pricing, October 31, 2026)
  • Alleviate: per organization, free on Starter, $149 a month on Growth, $299 a month on Pro (US, October 29, 2026)

Who it is not for

  • Alleviate is not a platform to build custom objects, workflows and apps on. An organization that needs its own data model should look at Salesforce.
