Alleviate vs a donor CRM (Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, Little Green Light, Neon CRM): which do I need?
A donor CRM such as Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, Little Green Light or Neon CRM is the record of donors and gifts. Alleviate is the record of the organization's programs, outcomes, funding, compliance and reporting, with giving and receipts included. If fundraising from many individual donors is the main job, start with a donor CRM; if programs, grants, filings and reporting are the main job, start with Alleviate; many organizations run both.
What each one is built around
A donor CRM is built around the gift: the constituent record, the campaign, the appeal, the event, the acknowledgment, the pledge. It is deep where fundraising is deep: segmentation, mailings, peer to peer pages, event registration, wealth screening integrations.
Alleviate is built around the program: participants, activities, budget by fund, outcomes, the funder who paid for it and the report owed on it. Around that sit the funding alerts and the AI proposal writer, the compliance calendar and filings, finance and HR, volunteers, documents and the reports. Giving and donor receipts are included so the money is in the same record as the work.
How to choose
Count where the hours go. An organization that raises most of its budget from individual donors and runs a gala and a year end appeal lives in the donor record; a donor CRM is the right center. An organization funded mostly by grants and contracts, with programs to run and reports to file, lives in the program record; Alleviate is the right center.
Organizations that do both usually keep the donor CRM for fundraising and use Alleviate for programs, funding, compliance and reporting. The two do not compete for the same job.
Price
Alleviate is free on Starter and $149 a month on Growth in the United States (October 29, 2026); donor CRMs are priced by the number of records or users and start from a comparable monthly figure for a small organization. Check each vendor's current price; this page does not quote them because they change.
The figures
- Donor CRM: the record of donors and gifts. Alleviate: the record of programs, outcomes, funding, compliance and reporting, with giving included
- Alleviate Starter free; Growth $149 a month (US, October 29, 2026)
Who it is not for
- Alleviate is not the better choice for a peer to peer fundraising campaign with thousands of individual donors and event registration at scale; that is what a donor CRM does best.
