What is ImpactOps?
ImpactOps is the operating layer of a mission organization: the programs it runs, the outcomes it records, the money and compliance behind them, and the reporting that connects them, managed in one system. The term is Alleviate's name for the category, in the way a donor CRM names fundraising software.
Where the term comes from
Nonprofits have had software for fundraising (the donor CRM), for accounting, and for monitoring and evaluation. None of them hold the organization's operations as a whole, so the executive director assembles the year end report from a donor database, three spreadsheets, a survey tool and an inbox. ImpactOps names the missing layer: the system of record for what the organization does, by analogy with DevOps and RevOps, which named the operating layers of engineering and revenue.
What an ImpactOps system holds
Programs and their participants, activities, budgets and outcomes. The funding behind them: alerts, proposals, awards and the reports owed on each award. The compliance calendar: the filings, registrations and receipts that keep the organization able to operate. Finance by fund, volunteers and their hours, documents, and the reports and funder views that read from all of it. An AI assistant that works from the same record rather than from a blank page.
How it relates to a CRM, an ERP and an M&E tool
A donor CRM is the fundraising record and stays useful alongside an ImpactOps platform. An ERP is the books of record and payroll; ImpactOps manages funds and budgets but hands the ledger to the accounting system. A monitoring and evaluation tool records indicators; ImpactOps records them inside the program that produced them, next to the money and the funder who asked.
